Down with the sickness!!!

Well, it's that time again. Allergy season! And it has hit Logan in full force. Last week we took him to the doctor because he'd been coughing for about a week. I had had enough and took him to our new pediatric practice. Loved it! Didn't love the fact I had to take another trip to the doctor. But it was a pleasant experience.

They told us last week that it looked like he was getting a sinus infection and put him on Omnicef, which is an antibiotic. All was well til the following Thursday, only a week later. Thursday night he got very congested again. Friday morning I gave him Mucinex. That stuff rocks! It makes the stuff come out! You have to wipe and have him blow his nose a zillion times a day but it works.

Picked him up from school Friday to go to my parents house for the evening. He was fine on the way, talking up a storm, singing, laughing. Then bam! As soon as we got there he was shy, not looking so hot, just not being himself. We went to Walmart and by then he could barely breathe! Poor little guy. He also started getting green, wet goop in his eyes and his eyes were really moist. My first thought was Pink Eye. But as the night went on his eyes never dried, never crusted over, and not once did I see him rub or scratch them. So they weren't itchy. I gave him his breathing treatments as usual, eyes drops, and put him to bed.

1:45 rolls around Saturday morning and Logan wakes up crying. He wouldn't stop and I knew he didn't feel well so I went to check on him. He had more goop in his eyes and just could not breathe well at all. I didn't know what else to do. I sucked out his nose with saline and the nose sucker (I know that is not the scientific name but I lost it for the moment). He had a lot of trouble breathing and sleeping. He was awake til almost 4 am downstairs with Daddy.

At 9 am I decided it was time to call the doctor and take him in. I was really getting worried with his labored breathing. Turns out he has Sinusitis/seasonal allergies. He is now on a different antibiotic, Biaxin, since the last one didn't seem to work, an oral steroid for 5 days, he's bouncing off the walls even more than usual, and Nasonex twice a day til the end of June (allery season). And we have to amp up his albuterol to 4 times a day til no longer needed. Gosh, that poor kid has had so many medications lately. It gets exhausting for us to keep up the routine but he needs it and has to have it.

He had fun at the doctor Saturday morning. We found a pad of paper and pen and he went to town. He walked around the room for a good 15-20 minutes "taking notes" on things while Daddy provided a play by play of what was going on. It was hilarious! And fit his actions perfectly! At least he was a very good sport and got a sticker at the end! And yes he was still in his pajamas til about 3:00 that afternoon! He is an ace at the doctor now!
