Scales, Needles, and A Breathing Treatment

Logan had his 9 month check up today. He is 18 1/2 pounds, 28 1/2 inches long or tall I guess you could say. He is a little underweight on the regular scale but considering he was a preemie and what he started at, he's come a long way. He is a growing boy.

He has had this nasty, horrible cough for about 6 weeks now. So, naturally I had some concerns and had Justin make sure and ask about it. Dr. B said that he is actually wheezing a little bit. Which I have been hearing but every time I mention it when he goes she says that it's not really a wheezing but an upper respiratory noise. Isn't that the same thing? Well, he ended getting a breathing treatment while he was there. She gave us the nebulizer to use 2 times a day, am/pm, when we feel like he needs it. It's not necessarily an everyday, all the time thing. She is just concerned that if he gets a cold on top of what he has now, it could be bad. The treatments should definitely help him. He is coughing b/c he is wheezing. He is having a hard time when he breathes in. He wheezes and it makes him cough. He does have congestion but she said he sounds good. No problem with the ears at this point....Thank God!

We are going to start wheening him off the bottle soon. She gave the okay for him to start with the milk, a little at a time. She wants us to feed him solid foods more than liquid. He should be getting the majority of his nutrition from solids instead of the formula. I already knew it was time for that and have been trying to give him more stuff from the table. I have to get creative and do a little more work than mixing a bottle or twisting the lid off the baby food jar! :) I think it will be fun seeing him try new, real food. The baby food was one thing but real food is soooo much more enjoyable!

It was also time for shots! I am assuming it was the 5 he has been getting each time which includes the oral vaccine for RotoVirus. Daddy was the lucky one this time that got to take him for his checkup and sit with him through that. He did ok I heard. Of course, there was and always is crying but was over it before he knew it. I guess it gets better as they get older. I remember the first time I had to be in the room with him getting shots or giving blood. It was horrible. It did bring tears to my eyes and upset me. I guess the first time was right before we left the hospital. I hadn't even had the chance to get him home and get to know him before I had to watch them stick the needle in his leg and hear him scream. And oh what a scream it was. He may have been a preemie and may have been small but man does that boy have some lungs!!!

That is the most recent update on Logan. He got virtually a clean bill of health. We will continue to monitor him with the breathing treatments. They should hopefully help. Dr. B is the bomb!
