I am so amazed each and every day with all the new things little man can do. As we realize a new accomplishment we are in shock and surprise that he can do whatever it is he can do. We know he is supposed to grow, learn, and do new things but each milestone is so exciting. We look at each other and say "Did you see that?" It's so fun to watch him do all the new and cool things he does. I just love him.
New accomplishments for this month:
1. Snapping! Yes, the boy can actually put his fingers together and make a real snapping sound. And even with the right fingers. You go boy! It's awesome!
2. He now gives five! And he's darn proud of it! We get a huge smile each time we stick our hand out and get a slap! It's awesome too!
3. Our little walker is really taking off! It started with a few steps here and there the last few months and this last week....BAM!! He is so proud of himself and so are we!!
4. I love that he can recognize objects when we say them...like milk, sock, ball, juice, dog, Nana, Pop, shoes and I'm sure there are more. You say the word and he either looks for the object and finds it or goes right to it. He also points to what he wants with his pointer finger. He started that last week while we were in Mississippi.
5. He is so good now at actually saying Bye Bye. When we leave school he is back into his waving bye bye mode but also followed by a long drawn out "Byyyeee Byeee!" It's so sweet! I love hearing him actually say words. He's been saying mama forever but it's nice to hear his vocabulary expanding.
When I was in the hospital getting ready to have him, my midwife who was only doing her job, informed me that preemies are prone to have breathing problems, be slower learners, held back on some things because things may not come as easy for them as other kids. At the time, I was in between contractions, not feeling my best, and now completely bawling my eyes out. My heart was sinking and I was scared as hell. All these images and scenarios kept running through my mind on what might be wrong with him. I knew he was going to be a preemie. My water had broken almost 6 weeks early which was scary enough. But to actually hear the words come out of someone's mouth who really knew what they were talking about is not how I envisioned my childbirth experience. I had to expect it though and know what may be ahead.
Now, 13 months later, my son is healthy, happy, and learning like crazy. People that know he was a preemie always tell me "don't let anyone tell me he was preemie." What they mean is there is not one slow thing about him. He actually is very smart and has surpassed all the negative things I was warned about. Yes, he is on a nebulizer for wheezing, but that is very common so I hear. Other than that, he's as smart as a whip. What other 13 month old do you know who can snap? :)
