I don't know about anyone else but gas prices are killing us! The last couple weeks we have noticed a little difference in our checking account as the prices has dropped and were steadily staying around $3.50. That was down from $4.09 or so a gallon previous to that. Well, today, all because of Hurricane Ike, they skyrocketed back to $3.89, that is if you can actually find a gas station that has GAS! I was driving around after work, a woman on a mission, just looking for a place to stop and get gas. My gas light came on as I was frantically and unsuccessfully oh and desperately looking. I thought for sure I was going to stop dead in the middle of the road while going on this wild goose chase.
The first place I drove by was Walmart. Their price was $3.89. I thought for sure the Racetrac right up the street would be that or even a little cheaper because they are very competitive. I was right!!! I was excited because of that golden sign in big black numbers it said $3.65. It's pretty sad when we think that is cheap! Cuz for sure, it ain't! Well, I got to the pump and realized NO GAS!! Not one pump had any. I just saw a sea of gas pumps covered in the dreaded black plastic bag. I was ok b/c it was just one place. I figured the next one I came to I would stop. So I did. I didn't see the black bags so I assumed I was safe, plus the people that just left in front of me got some. Guess again......NO GAS!!! So I continued this hunt at 2 more stations before I was out of the woods and didn't have to play the game of "running out of gas on the side of the road". Which would have sucked even more since there was no flippin stations around that had any gas anyway.
I ended up paying $3.79. $60 later, which I can tell you, with any car I've owned, have never had to pay $60 to fill up the tank. I was also thinking as I drove around that this is kind of like when a big snow storm or hurricane is about to hit and everyone flocks to the stores and run around like chickens with their heads cut off grabbing anything and everything, from toilet paper to tuna fish. What is Monday rolled around and there was no gas to get to work. Literally, I am not lying, gas is scare in our neck of the woods right now. And probably every where else too. It is a high possibility that some people are not going to be able to make it to work next week. Scary, huh?
And as I sit here rambling I get a call from the hubby. He says "Don't be surprised if I run out of gas." I just laugh inside as I hear that. Knowing what I just went through just to get my car moving, that is all I need. Not only will I have to go through that fiasco again, I have to waste the gas I just horded to drive to find more gas and then drive about 45 minutes to an hour away, that is if traffic cooperates, to save him. All I have to say is God help us all!
